Here’s a guide to help you create a logo using these 5 simple rules. Any brand, while it’s getting into the business and trying to make a recognition, needs a logo. This “logo” helps its potential clients and audience recognize the brand. While the necessity of a logo is high, creating the design is a very tricky process. The designer needs to be crystal clear with the purpose behind the brand to the services/features it has. Also, every logo needs to be original and unique. You might find the colours of various logos similar, for example, Facebook and Twitter both have shades of blue. But, you will never find two brands having a similar/same logo. The uniqueness of the logo is going to make your brand stand out in the crowd. However, if you make blunders while creating the logo at the starting stage, you might re-work on it at the later stages of the designing process. Nevertheless, here are the 5 cardinal rules to follow while creating a logo. 5 rules to follow while creating a logo: Pre-work: Without pre-work, you cannot proceed further with your logo design. Designers start creating the logo on the various designing tools and skip this step. This pre-work step is very simple. Take a pen and paper and start drawing your ideas.

5 rules to follow while creating a logo:

Pre-work:

Without pre-work, you cannot proceed further with your logo design. Designers start creating the logo on the various designing tools and skip this step. This pre-work step is very simple. Take a pen and paper and start drawing your ideas. Make sketches of all the ideas and then finalize any one of the logo design, that suits your brand the best. You can also use vector program for this pre-work step. For an effective logo design, pre-work is a must and ensure that this step is not missed.

Size:

The second point to keep in mind is the size of your logo as it matters a lot. The design created by your designer needs to look good visually and in all sizes. If you customize your logo only for letterheads, and promotional purposes, it will not look effective when used for larger formats. Keep a standard logo size that will work with both smaller formats and larger formats(TV, web, posters, etc.).

Colours:

As mentioned in the introduction, you can play with colours but you HAVE to be careful. For any designer, understanding the basics of colour theory is very important. You can try keeping individual colours or you can mix-match. But, if you are trying to mix-match colours, be careful with the combinations that you use. Remember, that your logo must look good in B&W, Grayscale, Sepia and all such effects.

Suitable design style:

One of the most crucial rules to keep in mind while designing a logo is that your design style must match the brand. A logo can be a graphic, for example, Twitter, or it can be a typography like Skype. There are brands whose logos are a combination of graphic and typography(Paytm and PayPal). Whether you create a typography, graphic or a combination of both, ensure that the logo speaks your brand.

Ease of effects:

Last but not the least, go easy on effects. Adobe Illustrator, Corel Draw, Photoshop and many such designing tools have plenty of effects and filters. It is confusing at times and designers get carried away. While you can play around with these filters to see if any of them looks good on the design, but for a logo, keep it simple yet creative.

Having a perfectly designed and curated logo is a very important part of branding. We, at Fabcoders, ensure that logos designed properly. For example, Disney says “The happiest place on Earth”, and well, can you deny it? No right. It purely delivers what it promises. Similarly, if your brand promises something, ensure that you deliver it. The brand building process ain’t that complicated. Follow the 6 simple yet effective steps to build your brand. Read on to know more.

6 best ways to build your brand:

1. Target audience:

In business, you cannot be an all-rounder. Even if you try your best, it is difficult to be “everything to everyone”. For example, if you run a fashion and lifestyle-related company, and your target audience/clients are from a software company, it doesn’t make any sense, does it? You need to scrutinize properly the type of personas/clients you are looking for your brand.

2. Brand Tagline/Mission:

Having a properly clear and curated tagline can boost up your branding campaign. As mentioned earlier, deliver what your tagline/mission statement promises to the customer. Ensure that through your tagline or mission statement, you can voice the purpose of your organisation. Don’t curate taglines of more than 5 words however your mission statement can be up to 10-12 words, although, keeping it short and straight is always better.

3. Consistent Social Media Presence:

You have the target audience ready and your tagline/mission statement ready curated, but where are you going to voice it? The plain and simple answer, Social media platforms. Believe it or not, you will find your target audience on social media, you only need to know on which platform they spend their maximum time. Do a proper research and you can work on your strategy then.

4. Blog:

We cannot emphasize enough on the fact that blogging is a very important part of branding. There are very few brands that do not have a blog section on their websites. Nevertheless, your blog can talk about a particular project as well as it can talk about various topics related to your brand.

5. Outline the key qualities of your brand:

In business, you have to remember that there are bigger brands than yours, and there are smaller brands than yours. But, you have to focus solely on your brand. Your products, services, advantages, and success belongs to you and no one else. Outline the key features of your brand properly. This will attract your target audience as it will be easier for them to know about your company.

6. Form a voice:

Every brand needs a voice. Irrespective of whether you are a big or a small brand, you need to form a voice. This voice can be friendly, professional, conversational, etc. However, it is advised to have your voice more like a chatbot as it makes your audience feel valued and attended.

There is no doubt in the fact that building a brand is no piece of cake. It takes a lot of patience and hard work. We, at Fabcoders, understand the importance of branding and take care of everything, right from logo to colours, and many such factors.

Let’s explore the different types of logos

From Coca-Cola’s classic logo to Apple’s iconic logo, the instant brand recognition a great logo provides is invaluable to a company. That is why most great brands have invested a lot of thought and money to come up with these unforgettable logos.

Branding starts with the logo. So one of the most important tasks that any new business venture should take up at the earliest is to create a memorable logo. Great care should be taken while designing the logo because the logo will be associated with your business and your brand for a very long time. Hence it is important that the logo you choose should convey your brand values clearly and at the same time be easily recognizable.

Logos can be broadly categorized into six types

1. Wordmark
This is the most basic type of logo and it simply involves the name of the brand presented with some variation of font and color.
Best known examples of this type of logo is Google and Coca-Cola.
This style of logo should not be used if you have a brand name that is very long.

2. Letter Mark

3. Symbol
This type of logo consists of an icon or figure without use of any text.
Mostly used by global companies the advantage it provides is that since there is no text it overcomes language barriers.
The disadvantage however is that since the brand name is written nowhere it is difficult for a customer to associate that logo with your business unless you have pumped in a lot of money in advertising.
Apple and Twitter are prime examples of this type.

4. Combination
This is the most popular type of logo and it involves using a symbol and the brand name to form the logo. Over half the businesses use this kind of logo.
Since this type uses both text and an icon, it usually takes the most time and effort .Advantage however is that customers see both your icon and business name together and if need arises you can split and use the icon and text separately.
Famous brands that use this type are Adidas and Lacoste.

5. Emblem
Emblem logos are similar to combination logos in the fact that they both use an icon and the brand name. The difference however is that icon and text can be split apart but in Emblem logos the text is contained inside the icon so cannot be separated out.
These kind of logos lend authority to the brand. Many government institutions have this style.
Harley Davidson and Starbucks are good examples of this category.

6. Mascots
Mascot type logos usually use an illustrated character to represent your brand.
A great example of this type is KFC and Air India.
This type is great if you want to connect to families or your target clients are mostly children.
